Cold Rolled Steel Sheets
SPCC-SD is a commercial-quality cold-rolled carbon steel sheet defined by JIS G 3141 (Cold-reduced carbon steel sheet and strip). SPCC means Steel Plate Cold Commercial; the -S denotes standard temper (annealed and skin-passed), and the -D denotes a dull, matte finish produced by shot-blasted rolls. It is the general-purpose cold-rolled grade used where a part must be formed and then painted or plated.

The key purchasing point: plain SPCC has no guaranteed tensile strength. If your design or your customer requires ≥270 MPa, order SPCCT, not SPCC. This single suffix is the most common cause of a rejected first batch.

Q1. What does SPCC-SD stand for?
SPCC is commercial-quality cold-rolled carbon steel to JIS G 3141. "S" means standard temper (annealed and skin-passed); "D" means dull finish - a matte, slightly textured surface produced by shot-blasted rolls.
Q2. Why choose the dull (SD) finish?
The matte texture retains stamping lubricant better than a bright surface and gives superior paint, powder-coat and plating adhesion. It also hides minor surface marks. Choose SD whenever the part is stamped and then painted.
Q3. What are the mechanical properties of SPCC-SD?
It is a soft, ductile steel. Plain SPCC has no guaranteed tensile strength - only a hardness ceiling (HV ≤115, HRBS ≤65). Where ≥270 MPa tensile is required, order SPCCT, which carries the guarantee.
Q4. How does SPCC-SD differ from SPCC-SB?
Same grade and same mechanical properties. SB has a bright, reflective finish; SD has a matte finish. SB is preferred for bare or decorative parts, SD for painted or plated parts.
Q5. What are the international equivalents?
EN 10130 DC01 (Europe), ASTM A1008 CS Type A/B (USA), GB/T 5213 DC01 / SPCC (China). The newer Japanese JFS A 2001 family uses JSC270C (trade name SPC270C), where the number states the minimum tensile strength.
