The material can be normalized for strength as a heat treatment method. The 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum in the content make the pipes strong and corrosion resistant. The material is resistant to wearing and high temperature creeping. The ASTM A335 P91 Pipe is non – deteriorating, has decreased thickness and higher creep strength. The applications of the pipes are seen mostly in power generation, petrochemicals, heaters and reheat liners, boilers and in oil services.
The A335 P91 Material has carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, nitrogen, nickel, aluminum, columbium, titanium and zirconium in the composition. There are seamless and welded pipe types. The seamless pipes are drawn from a single billet of the raw material while the ASTM A335 Gr P91 Welded Pipe is welded from a strip or sheet. The welding can be spiral or longitudinal from end to end to produce the pipe. The pipes have 415MPa minimum yield strength and 585MPa minimum tensile strength.
