Are cold-rolled coils suitable for making appliance panels?

1.Is it suitable to use cold-rolled coils to make appliance panels?

Very suitable and very common. Cold-rolled coils have a smooth surface, high thickness precision, and are suitable for spraying, making them the mainstream substrate for panels of home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners (usually called the substrate of PCM boards or VCM boards).

2.Why is it suitable for making panels? What are its main advantages?

Three core advantages: ① Good surface quality: The surface of cold-rolled steel sheet is delicate and flat, which directly determines the mirror or matte effect after coating; ② Uniform thickness: Ensures that large-area panels do not deform or develop orange peel texture; ③ Good formability: It can meet the common shallow stretching, bending and punching of home appliance panels, such as the forming of refrigerator door handles.

3.Will cold-rolled steel sheets rust easily when used for paneling?

Bare steel sheets will rust, but finished panels will not. Cold-rolled coils used for appliance panels undergo pre-coating (i.e., color-coated sheets) before leaving the factory or are sprayed/electrophoretically coated after forming. The coating not only prevents rust but also provides various colors and textures, so the finished panels are rust-proof.

4.Which is better for paneling: it or galvanized steel?

Consider Cost and Positioning:

Cold-rolled steel sheet: Lower cost, better coating adhesion, suitable for dry environments (such as indoor air conditioners, TVs, and speaker panels).

Galvanized steel sheet: Slightly higher cost, but the cut edges are protected by a coating, suitable for humid environments (such as washing machine and dishwasher housings), and offers higher rust resistance.

If the product is positioned in the mid-range market and the environment is dry, cold-rolled steel sheet offers excellent value for money.

5.In what situations are cold-rolled coils unsuitable for making panels?

Two scenarios:

When exposed bare steel is required (brushed stainless steel effect): Stainless steel sheet should be selected, not cold-rolled sheet (cold-rolled sheet must be coated).

In extremely humid or corrosive environments: For applications such as outdoor machines or marine appliances, galvanized sheet or weathering steel should be selected.
