Are galvanized coils used for the housings of high-pressure washers?

1.What are the theoretically feasible reasons?

Cost Advantage: Galvanized coils are generally less expensive than stainless steel and engineering plastics, which may be attractive for products where extreme cost control is a priority.

Basic Rust Protection: Compared to ordinary cold-rolled sheets, the galvanized layer does provide some rust protection, dealing with occasional moisture and humid environments.

2.What are the challenges faced in practice?

Extreme Corrosive Environment:

High-pressure cleaners operate in environments with continuous, high-intensity water vapor, high-pressure water mist, and potentially cleaning agents (acids and alkalis).

The galvanized layer (especially at cuts, welds, and bends) is highly susceptible to white and black rust in this environment, eventually leading to perforation. Its corrosion resistance is far from sufficient to withstand such harsh conditions long-term.

Appearance and Process Issues:

Common Appearance: The silver-gray appearance of galvanized steel sheets has a somewhat industrial feel, making it difficult to create a high-end, sophisticated look that attracts consumers. Secondary treatments such as painting are usually required, increasing costs and processes.

Welding Difficulties: During welding, the zinc layer evaporates, producing toxic zinc oxide fumes that pose a significant health hazard to workers. Furthermore, weld quality is difficult to guarantee, and the weld area becomes the first weak point to corrode.

Corrosion Prevention at Cuts and Folds: At cuts, punching, and bending points, the zinc layer is damaged, exposing the internal steel. These areas become the starting point for corrosion in humid environments, leading to rapid rusting.

3.Can engineering plastics be used for the housing of a high-pressure washer?

Advantages:

Absolutely rust-proof: Completely unaffected by water and moisture corrosion.

Lightweight: Lightweight, easy to move and carry.

Design freedom: Complex, streamlined appearances can be manufactured through injection molding, with a wide range of colors.

Excellent insulation: Extremely safe as an electrical appliance casing.

Cost-effective: Highly cost-competitive for mass production.

4.Is stainless steel used for the housing of high-pressure washers?

Advantages:

Excellent corrosion resistance: Resistant to water, moisture, and most chemical cleaning agents, resulting in an extremely long service life.

High structural strength: Extremely robust and durable, capable of withstanding harsh industrial environments.

Professional appearance: Possesses industrial aesthetics and a high-quality feel.

Disadvantages: Highest cost, heaviest weight.

5.What are the advantages and disadvantages of using aluminum alloy for the housing of a high-pressure washer?

Advantages: Lightweight, high strength, and superior corrosion resistance compared to galvanized steel (especially after anodizing).

Disadvantages: Higher cost than plastics and galvanized steel, and relatively complex processing.
