The VCI substance continues to volatilize in the sealed space, adsorbing onto the metal surface to form a protective layer, effectively neutralizing corrosion from salt and moisture.
VCI anti-corrosion paper: VCI anti-corrosion paper is used as padding in critical areas such as the inner ring and ends of the coil, providing double protection.
2.How effective is the outer waterproof seal?
Outside the VCI inner packaging, a thickened aluminum-plastic composite film bag is placed. This material has extremely high strength, water resistance, and water vapor barrier properties, forming the first physical barrier against external humid and salty air.
The bag opening is carefully sealed with moisture-proof tape, or vacuumed/filled with dry air using a vacuum valve before sealing, to minimize air and moisture inside the packaging.
3.How can we strengthen the protection of critical components?
Mandrel Hole: Sealed with a VCI rust-proof cap or a special plastic plug to prevent the "chimney effect" (air and moisture convection through the center hole).
Outer Ring and Ends of the Coil: In addition to the inner rust-proof paper lining, steel or high-strength plastic corner protectors are used, and the coils are securely bound with steel or plastic-steel straps to prevent damage to the packaging from collisions and friction during transport.
4.What are some supplementary protective measures?
Desiccant: Place sufficient silica gel desiccant inside the sealed packaging to absorb any remaining trace moisture.
Support and Securing: Inside the container, the pre-coated rolls must be securely supported and secured using specialized materials such as triangular blocks and airbags to prevent the rolls from colliding with each other or with the container walls due to ship swaying, thus preventing damage to the packaging.
5.What are the key recommendations?
Clearly define contract requirements: When signing a purchase contract with a supplier, be sure to clearly specify the packaging requirements. For example: "The packaging must meet marine salt spray protection standards, using vapor phase corrosion inhibitor (VCI) film and fully sealed aluminum foil bags, and include desiccant and end protection."
Choose a reliable supplier: Ensure that your supplier has export experience, understands the importance of marine packaging, and has a standardized packaging production line.
Pre-loading inspection: Before loading the goods into the container, check as much as possible to ensure the packaging is intact, the seals are tight, and that desiccants and corner protectors are in place.
