Galvanized Round Bar
Galvanized round bar is a round steel bar that has been galvanized. The zinc layer effectively protects the steel and provides excellent corrosion resistance. Below is a detailed introduction:
Production Process: There are two main processes: hot-dip galvanizing and cold-dip galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing involves immersing the round steel in molten zinc, forming a metallurgical bond between the zinc layer and the steel. The zinc layer is generally 30μm to 85μm thick and offers excellent corrosion resistance. Cold-dip galvanizing involves electroplating or chemical plating the round steel surface with a relatively thin layer of zinc, typically ranging from a few microns to tens of microns. Its corrosion resistance is slightly inferior to that of hot-dip galvanizing.
Specifications: Specifications are usually expressed in diameter. Common diameters range from a few millimeters to several hundred millimeters, such as 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 130mm. Lengths generally range from 3000mm to 12000mm, and custom designs are also available. Performance Characteristics: It offers excellent corrosion resistance. The zinc layer acts as a sacrificial anode, oxidizing before the underlying steel, protecting the inner steel from corrosion. Its surface typically exhibits a silvery-white luster, creating an aesthetically pleasing finish that easily blends in with other building materials. Galvanized round bar also possesses good tensile strength, yield strength, and moderate ductility, making it easy to process, including cutting, bending, drilling, and welding.
Applications: In power engineering, it is often used as a grounding electrode and lightning conductor, such as in substation grounding grids and transmission line tower grounding electrodes. In the construction industry, it can be used for building foundation reinforcement, steel structure connectors, handrails, curtain wall keels, and more. In machinery manufacturing, it can be used to manufacture key components for various types of machinery and equipment, such as connecting shafts for construction machinery and load-bearing components for mining equipment.
Applicable Standards: Common standards include ASTM, AISI, ASME, DIN, JIS, EN, and GB. Different standards have varying requirements for the material, dimensions, and zinc layer thickness of galvanized round bar.
