Hot dip galvanized steel coils for white goods

Jun 12, 2025Leave a message

Hot-dip galvanized steel coils are widely used in the manufacturing of white appliances (such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, etc.) due to their excellent corrosion resistance, formability and cost-effectiveness.

Coating type:
Pure zinc (GI): Commonly used in home appliances, such as SGCC (Japanese standard), DX51D+Z (European standard).
Zinc-iron alloy (GA): Better weldability, used for parts that need to be welded.

Coating thickness:
Conventional home appliances: 60-120g/m² (double-sided), outdoor units or high-demand parts may be higher.

Substrate material:
Low carbon steel (such as SPCC) balances strength and formability.

Surface treatment:
Passivation (chromate or chromium-free) or oiling to enhance rust prevention and spray adhesion.

How is hot-dip galvanized steel different from other materials?

Materials

Advantages

Disadvantages

Applicable scenarios

Hot-dip galvanized steel

Low cost, corrosion resistance, easy to shape

Appearance needs to be sprayed for decoration

Most home appliance housings/structural parts

Stainless steel

High corrosion resistance, beautiful

High cost, difficult to process

High-end home appliances or local parts

Aluminum plate

Lightweight, corrosion resistance

Low strength, high price

Air conditioning radiators, etc.

Color-coated plate

No spraying, strong decorative effect

Slightly high cost

Directly exposed exterior parts

Typical Applications of Galvanized Steel Coil-Gl in White Appliances

Refrigerator
Outer shell and internal structural parts:
galvanized steel coils are used for side panels, back panels, doors, etc. to provide rust protection, especially in humid environments (such as kitchens).
Compressor bracket: Need to withstand vibration and mechanical stress, the galvanized layer can extend the life.

Washing machine
Outer box:
prevent corrosion from detergents and water vapor, galvanized sheet (such as DX51D+Z) is often used.
Inner drum support structure: Some models use galvanized steel to enhance durability.

Air conditioner
Outdoor unit shell:
Weather resistance is required, galvanized sheet (may be sprayed later) to resist rain and salt spray.
Internal sheet metal parts: such as brackets, chassis, etc.

Microwave oven
Cavity and shell:
galvanized sheet is resistant to high temperature and grease corrosion.
