How to choose coating method for different scenarios?

Q:What scenarios are suitable for airless spraying?

A:Airless spraying: the first choice for heavy-duty anti-corrosion scenarios
Core advantages: Atomizing the paint through high pressure can form a thick film (dry film thickness can reach more than 200μm), effectively covering the surface defects of the substrate and blocking the penetration of corrosive media. Suitable for high-performance anti-corrosion coatings such as epoxy zinc-rich primers and polyurethane topcoats.
Typical applications: offshore platforms, chemical storage tanks, bridge steel structures and other projects that are exposed to harsh environments for a long time.

Q:What scenarios are suitable for electrophoretic coating?
A:Electrophoretic coating: Ultimate anti-corrosion for precision components
Core advantages: Using the electric field to make the paint particles adhere evenly, the coating thickness error is less than ±5μm, and the salt spray resistance test can reach more than 1000 hours (such as automobile body anti-corrosion).
Typical applications: automobiles, electronics, medical devices and other fields with high requirements for anti-corrosion and appearance consistency.

Q:What scenarios are suitable for powder coating?

A:Powder coating: environmentally friendly and long-lasting anti-corrosion
Core advantages: solid powder has no volatility, the coating is dense and pinhole-free, and has outstanding weather resistance and chemical corrosion resistance (such as polyester powder can withstand salt spray for up to 2000 hours).
Typical applications: outdoor metal furniture, building profiles, pipeline anti-corrosion layers (such as PE powder sintered epoxy).

Q:How to choose the best coating method?

A:1. According to the requirements of anti-corrosion level
Light anti-corrosion (such as indoor steel structure): brush coating/roller coating + ordinary alkyd paint or acrylic paint.
Heavy anti-corrosion (such as marine/chemical environment): airless spray/electrophoretic coating + epoxy/polyurethane system.
2. According to the shape and scale of the workpiece
Complex small parts: dip coating or electrophoretic coating (such as screws, gears).
Large flat surfaces: airless spray or shower coating (such as storage tanks, bridges).
3. According to cost and environmental protection requirements
Mass production: give priority to electrophoretic coating and powder coating with high degree of automation (reduce labor costs).
Environmentally sensitive areas: choose water-based paint + airless spray or powder coating (reduce VOC emissions).

Q:What are the key factors affecting the anti-corrosion effect of coating?

A:1. Substrate treatment
Surface cleanliness: Rust and oil removal are required, otherwise the coating adhesion is insufficient and it is easy to fall off and cause corrosion.
Pretreatment: The metal substrate can be phosphated and passivated to enhance the adhesion of the coating.
2. Coating matching system ◦ Primer, intermediate paint and topcoat must be compatible. When the thickness of a single coating is insufficient, multiple layers of coating can be applied.
3. Construction environment control
Temperature and humidity: Usually the temperature is required to be 5-35℃, and the humidity is ≤85%. Low temperature affects curing, and high humidity can easily cause blistering of the coating.
Ventilation and dust prevention: Dust pollution must be avoided during spraying, and solvent-based coatings require explosion-proof ventilation.
4. Coating thickness management ◦ The dry film thickness (DFT) must meet the design standard. Insufficient thickness can easily form corrosion channels.
