How to repair scratches on the surface of color coated coils?

1.How to determine the scratch level?

Light scratches: Only the topcoat is scratched, the primer is not exposed.
Moderate scratches: The topcoat is damaged, the primer is visible but not penetrated.
Deep scratches: The primer is damaged, and the galvanized layer is exposed.
Penetrating scratches: The base metal is exposed (see silver-white)

2.What repair options are available?

Minor scratches
Repair tools: car scratch wax/fine-grit abrasive paste (2000 mesh or more); soft cloth/sponge polishing block
Operation steps: clean the scratch (use alcohol to remove oil stains)
Apply scratch wax and polish in circles until the marks fade
Wipe off the remaining paste with a damp cloth

Moderate scratches
Recommended materials: Special repair pen for color-coated boards (color matching is required, such as PPG, Beko and other brands); quick-drying acrylic resin paint.
Operation steps:
Sandpaper the scratched edge (600 mesh → 1200 mesh step grinding)
Apply touch-up paint after alcohol cleaning (cover the primer)
Apply masking tape after the surface is dry, spray saliva to eliminate the steps
Polish and fuse after 48 hours

Deep scratches must be treated within 48 hours! Otherwise, the zinc layer will oxidize and produce white rust, which will cause the adhesion to fail.

3.How to choose repair strategies in different scenarios?

Building exterior walls/roofs: professional spray repair (high color retention requirements)
Food factories/clean workshops: epoxy resin coating (antibacterial certification)
Containers/transportation equipment: cold-coated zinc + polyurethane topcoat (anti-vibration)

4.What are some tips for preventing scratches?

Installation protection: Use nylon lifting straps (wire ropes are prohibited); install rubber corner guards on the transport truck.

Storage specification: Stack height ≤ 3 layers, with PE membranes between layers.
Cover with UV protective tarpaulin when storing outdoors.

Design optimization: Suede coating is preferred (Hidex brand has 40% higher scratch resistance); thickened coating (≥25μm) is used within 1.5m below the wall.

5.How to choose economic decisions?

Single point scratch <5cm²: touch-up pen application
Linear scratch (less than 1m long): professional local spraying
Large area scratch (>0.5㎡): replace the entire board
