Q345B Applications
Q345B is a low-alloy, high-strength structural steel specified in the Chinese national standard (GB/T 1591). It features moderate strength (yield strength ≥ 345 MPa), good weldability, and excellent ductility. It is widely used in a variety of fields, including construction, machinery, transportation, and engineering. Specific applications are as follows:
1. Construction and Structural Engineering
Steel Structures: Used in load-bearing frames (such as steel columns and beams) and supporting components of factories and high-rise buildings. Replacing traditional low-carbon steel (such as Q235) reduces structural weight and improves seismic resistance.
Bridges and Municipal Engineering: Suitable for main beams and guardrails of small and medium-sized bridges, as well as municipal pipelines (such as water and gas pipelines) and supports, capable of withstanding certain loads and environmental pressures.
Tower Structures: Used in the towers and connectors of communication towers and transmission towers, requiring both strength and weather resistance (which can be enhanced through surface treatment). 2. Machinery Manufacturing and Equipment
General Machinery Components: Used in the manufacture of machine tool beds, crane booms, pressure vessel casings (must meet relevant welding and pressure resistance standards), and bases for construction machinery, leveraging their high strength to reduce the weight of the equipment.
Heavy Machinery Parts: Components such as the booms and dipper arms of excavators and loaders, and tractor frames, are designed to withstand tensile and bending stresses under heavy loads.
3. Transportation
Automotive Manufacturing: Primarily used in chassis structural components (such as longitudinal and cross members) and anti-collision beams for commercial vehicles (trucks and buses), as well as chassis reinforcements (subframes and suspension brackets) for passenger cars, achieving a balance between strength and formability.
Shipping and Rail Transit: Suitable for hull structures and cabin supports for small and medium-sized ships, as well as carriage frames and connectors for subways and light rails. These components require anti-corrosion treatment (such as painting and galvanizing) to withstand humid environments.
4. Other Industrial Applications
Containers and Warehousing Equipment: Container frames and shelf columns must withstand stacking loads and the impact of transportation. Pipelines and Pressure Vessels: Used in the manufacture of medium- and low-pressure transmission pipelines (such as oil and natural gas branch lines) and oil storage tank shells, it must meet welding quality and toughness requirements (room temperature impact energy ≥ 34J).

Summary
Q345B's core advantage lies in its balance of strength and workability. It can withstand greater loads than ordinary low-carbon steel (Q235) and is easier to weld and cold-form than higher-strength low-alloy steels (such as Q355B). This makes it a "general-purpose" low-alloy structural steel in industry, particularly suitable for structural parts requiring a combination of strength, weldability, and cost.
