1.What is the basic meaning of Q345B?

"Q" stands for "Qi" (the pinyin initials of the character for "yield strength"), indicating the steel's yield strength characteristics.
"345" indicates the steel's lower yield strength limit of 345 MPa (i.e., in a tensile test, the minimum stress at which plastic deformation begins in the steel must be no less than 345 MPa).
"B" represents the steel's quality grade, belonging to the low-carbon steel category. It corresponds to impact toughness requirements-impact testing must be conducted at 20°C with an impact energy (Ak) of no less than 34J. There are no low-temperature impact requirements (for Q345C/D/E, low-temperature impact tests are performed at 0°C, -20°C, and -40°C, respectively).

2.What is the chemical composition of Q345B?

Carbon (C): ≤0.24% (Low carbon content reduces the risk of cold cracking during welding and ensures weldability);
Silicon (Si): ≤0.55% (Deoxidizer, improves steel smelting quality);
Manganese (Mn): ≤1.60% (Major strengthening element, increases steel strength through solid solution strengthening);
Phosphorus (P): ≤0.035%;
Sulfur (S): ≤0.035% (P and S are harmful impurities and must be strictly controlled to prevent steel embrittlement);
Vanadium (V), Niobium (Nb), and Titanium (Ti): May be added individually or in combination, with a total content of ≤0.22% (Microalloying elements, further enhancing strength and toughness through grain refinement and precipitation strengthening).

3.What are the mechanical properties of Q345B?

Tensile Strength: 470-630 MPa (the maximum stress the steel can withstand before breaking, reflecting the material's "strength reserve");
Elongation (A): ≥21% (a measure of the steel's plasticity, representing the relative deformation before breaking; a higher value indicates a less brittle fracture resistance);
Impact Energy (Ak): ≥34 J (the ability to resist impact loads at 20°C, ensuring the steel is less susceptible to sudden fracture under impact);
Cold Bendability: Acceptable (no cracks in the bent area during the standard cold bend test indicate good plasticity and ease of forming).

4.What are the core advantages of Q345B?

High Strength and Lightweight: Compared to ordinary carbon steel (such as Q235B, with a yield strength of 235 MPa), this steel can be reduced in thickness or cross-sectional dimensions, reducing the weight of the structure (for example, in building steel structures and bridges, this reduces consumable materials and foundation-bearing pressure).

Excellent Overall Performance: It combines high strength, ductility, and toughness, with excellent weldability (a low-carbon and low-impurity design reduces cracking during welding), meeting the processing and application requirements of most projects.

Economical: Strengthened by the addition of small amounts of microalloying elements (V, Nb, and Ti), it eliminates the need for complex heat treatment processes, resulting in lower production costs than high-alloy steels and a high cost-performance ratio.

5.What are the typical application scenarios of Q345B?

Construction: High-rise building steel structures, factory building steel frames, support beams, etc. (replacing some Q235B to reduce structural deadweight);
Bridge Engineering: Steel box girders and trusses for small and medium-sized bridges (must withstand dynamic loads and rely on their strength and toughness);
Machinery: Pressure vessels (non-extreme operating conditions), construction machinery (such as crane arms and excavator chassis), mining machinery, etc. (requires high strength and impact resistance);
Pipeline Engineering: High-pressure oil/gas pipelines, hydraulic pipelines, etc. (must withstand internal pressure and have significant strength advantages);
Automotive and Marine: Truck frames, ship decks, etc. (strength alternative for lightweighting).
