The SPCC grade is derived from the JIS standard, which stands for Japanese Industrial Standards.
The SPCC grade, derived from the JIS standard, is specified in detail in the 2015 edition of JIS G 3141 for cold-rolled steel sheets and strip. This standard covers five different grades: SPCC, SPCD, SPCE, SPCF, and SPCG, each meeting specific application requirements. Specifically, SPCC is primarily used for general purposes, SPCD is suitable for deep drawing, SPCE is suited for applications requiring deep drawing, and SPCF and SPCG, a non-aging deep drawing grade, each meet specific deep drawing requirements. Furthermore, if specific properties such as tensile strength or elongation are required for steel sheets or strip, a "T" may be added to the end of the grade, as in SPCCT.
SPCC Tempering Categories
In the JIS standard, SPCC tempering categories are distinguished by suffixes. Combined with the grade, the suffix provides detailed information about the product's properties. The temper code is a key factor, indicating the steel's heat treatment status. In the JIS standard, temper codes may include "A" and "S." Specifically, "A" represents annealing only, while "S" indicates the steel has achieved standard tempering. These suffixes provide a more accurate understanding of the performance and suitability of SPCC steel.

The hardness code, combined with the temper code, provides a comprehensive understanding of SPCC steel's performance. The numbers 1, 2, 4, and 8 represent different hardness levels. When the annealing process is adjusted differently, different hardness levels can be obtained, such as 1/8 hard or 1/4 hard. It is important to note that the "hard" represented by the suffix 1 is not what we commonly refer to as "hard rolled coil"; it still requires low-temperature annealing.

Surface condition is another crucial specification in the SPCC standard, directly affecting the product's appearance and processing performance. The standard categorizes surface conditions into two types: Type D (pitted) and Type B (smooth). The formation of these two surface conditions depends primarily on the roughness of the rolls (tempering rolls) used in the rolling process. The roll surface texture is directly replicated on the steel plate surface, resulting in a smooth or pitted surface. Selecting the appropriate surface condition is crucial for smooth processing, as different surface conditions can significantly affect the process.
