1.Why is the lightfastness compromised after touch-up?
Core shortcoming: incomplete coating system
The original coating is a complete system: substrate → chemical conversion layer (key anti-rust foundation) → primer (strong adhesion) → topcoat (weather resistance). All layers work together.
On-site touch-up: usually only 1-2 top coats can be applied after cleaning. The chemical conversion layer and special primer are missing, and the adhesion foundation is weak.
The process and curing conditions are very different
Original factory: Painted by roller, baked at high temperature above 200℃, the paint film is dense and fully cross-linked.
On-site touch-up: manual brushing/spraying, natural curing at room temperature. The uniformity, density, and degree of curing of the paint film are greatly reduced, which directly affects the ability to resist ultraviolet rays and chalking.
Material matching issues
It is difficult to find a refinishing paint that is exactly the same chemical composition and weather resistance level as the original coating. Ordinary alkyd paint repair PVDF fluorocarbon topcoat, the effect is bound to be poor. Additives such as UV absorbers in refinishing paint are also generally less effective.

2.How to maximize the effect of touch-up paint?
Surface treatment (key to success):
Cleaning and polishing: Use fine sandpaper (such as 400#) to polish the scratches into smooth "feathered edges", expand the treatment area, and completely remove dust.
Focus on rust prevention: If the metal substrate is exposed, you must first apply "anti-rust primer for galvanized sheets" or "epoxy zinc-rich primer" to completely cover the exposed metal.
Material selection:
First choice: contact the color-coated roll supplier to obtain the original matching repair paint.
Second choice: Use a well-known brand of outdoor acrylic polyurethane paint or fluorocarbon paint repair agent, which has relatively good weather resistance.
Standard construction:
Perform in dry, moderate weather.
Use "multiple thin coats" to ensure each layer is dry before applying the next layer.

3.How to repair small area scratches on ordinary building roofs/walls (non-chemical environment)?
Repairing strictly according to the above method can be used as a cost-effective maintenance method, which can delay corrosion and improve the appearance. However, it is necessary to accept that color difference and chalking may occur in the future, and it may need to be repaired again.

4.How to repair key parts in highly corrosive environments such as chemical industry and coastal areas?
Touch-up paint is only a temporary emergency measure, and chemical corrosion will quickly penetrate through weak points.
The fundamental solution is to replace the entire panel, or replace it with a more corrosion-resistant material (such as FRP, stainless steel).
5.In summary, how effective is the touch-up paint?
Touch-up paint can "repair the appearance" and "provide short-term protection," but its light fastness and overall durability cannot be compared with the original coating and is a conditional, degraded maintenance solution.
