The UV resistance of color coated coils?

1.How does the resin type affect the UV resistance of color coated coils?

Fluorocarbon resin (PVDF): The molecular structure is stable, and the fluorine element can effectively resist ultraviolet penetration. It has the best weather resistance and an outdoor service life of 20-30 years.
Polyester resin: Ordinary polyester has moderate UV resistance and an outdoor service life of 5-10 years; high weather-resistant polyester (HDP) can increase its service life to 10-15 years through improved formula.
Acrylic resin: It has weak weather resistance and is prone to gloss loss and powdering due to ultraviolet aging. It is mostly used in indoor or short-term outdoor scenes.

2.How do pigments and fillers affect the UV resistance of color coated coils?

Inorganic pigments (such as titanium dioxide, red iron oxide): strong chemical stability, excellent reflection or absorption of ultraviolet rays, and light resistance far superior to organic pigments.
Ultraviolet absorbers (UVA) and hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS): functional additives added to the coating that can absorb or neutralize ultraviolet energy and delay resin degradation.

3.What are the typical performance characteristics of UV resistance?

Appearance changes: coating loss of gloss (loss of gloss), discoloration (such as yellowing, fading), powdering (powder formation and shedding on the surface).
Performance degradation: coating adhesion decreases, cracking and peeling occur, and then the protective effect on the substrate is lost, causing the steel plate to rust.

4.How do coating thickness and process affect the UV resistance of color coated coils?

The more uniform and dense the coating thickness is, the stronger its ability to block ultraviolet rays is; conversely, thin coatings or pinholes are prone to aging first.
Whether the baking and curing process meets the standards directly affects the cross-linking density of the resin. The higher the density, the better the resistance to ultraviolet erosion.

5.What are some application recommendations for improved UV resistance?

Scene adaptation:In areas with high ultraviolet rays (such as plateaus and tropical regions), fluorocarbon or highly weather-resistant polyester coatings are preferred; ordinary polyester can be used indoors or in areas with low sunlight.
Maintenance measures:Clean the coating surface regularly to reduce the accumulation of dust and pollutants (pollutants may absorb ultraviolet rays and accelerate local aging).
Quality control:When purchasing, require suppliers to provide weather resistance test reports of coatings (such as aging test data) to avoid inferior products.
