Basic Definition:
Elbow: A fitting used in a piping system to change the direction of a pipe. Common angles are 45°, 90°, and 180° (U-bend).
Galvanizing: A process of coating the surface of steel (usually carbon steel) with a layer of zinc. The main purpose is to prevent corrosion (rust) of steel.
Galvanized elbow:
An elbow made of carbon steel with zinc coating on its surface.
It combines the steering function of the elbow with the anti-corrosion protection of the zinc coating.

2.What are the types of galvanizing processes?
Hot-dip galvanizing:
The most common process. The clean steel elbow is dipped into molten zinc (approximately 450°C).
The zinc reacts metallurgically with the steel to form multiple layers of an iron-zinc alloy, covered with a layer of pure zinc.
Electrogalvanizing: A layer of zinc is deposited on the surface of steel through an electrolytic process.
3.What are the advantages and disadvantages of hot-dip galvanizing?
Advantages: Thick coating (usually 50-150 microns), uniform, strong adhesion, very good durability (usually 20-50 years or longer outdoors), can cover the inner wall (if the pipe is an open structure or properly treated).
Disadvantages: High temperature may cause slight deformation (for precision pipes, please note), zinc flowers (crystallization lines) on the surface, and the color is a unique silver-gray.

4.What are the advantages and disadvantages of electrogalvanizing?
Advantages: Uniform and smooth coating, good appearance (bright silver or color passivation), high dimensional accuracy, and cost is usually lower than hot-dip galvanizing.
Disadvantages: Thin coating (usually 5-30 microns), corrosion protection life is much lower than hot-dip galvanizing (especially in outdoor environments), the inner wall coating may be uneven or incomplete, and the adhesion is not as good as hot-dip galvanizing.

5.What are the advantages of galvanized elbows?
Excellent corrosion resistance: The zinc layer acts as a sacrificial anode and corrodes preferentially to protect the steel substrate. Even if the coating is scratched, the zinc can protect the nearby exposed steel. This is its core value.
Relatively economical: Compared with corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel and copper, galvanized carbon steel elbows are cheaper and are a cost-effective anti-corrosion solution.
Good mechanical strength: The carbon steel substrate provides sufficient strength and rigidity.
Easy to install: Standard threaded or welded interface (the galvanized layer at the weld needs to be repaired after welding), and the installation method is mature.
Long service life: Especially in non-extreme corrosion environments, hot-dip galvanized elbows have a long service life.
