Hot-dip galvanized steel
Hot-dip galvanized steel S280GD in accordance with the EN 10346 standard is a high-quality structural steel that has been specially developed for use in structural engineering and building construction. With the material number 1.0244, S280GD has a minimum yield strength Rp0.2 of 280 N/mm² and thus joins the higher strength classes of galvanized structural steels. Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with EN 10346 guarantees a uniform zinc coating on the steel surface, which effectively protects the base material against corrosion. Thanks to the various coating systems (+Z, +ZF, +ZA, +ZM, +AZ and +AS), the material can be precisely adapted to different climatic and mechanical stresses.
The name S280GD is derived from European standard EN 10346 and stands for:
- S: Structural grade steel.
- 280: Minimum yield strength of 280 MPa.
- GD: Suitable for continuous hot-dip galvanization.
GNEE STEEL offers S280GD galvanized steel in various forms, including coils, sheets, and strips. Each product supports a range of metal coatings such as Z275, Z100, and AZ150, meeting rigorous quality standards.

1) Where yield strength is defined, the values apply to the upper yield strength ReH.
2) For all steel types, with the exception of S550GD, a span of 140 MPa can be expected for the tensile strength.
3) Depending on the product thickness, the minimum values of elongation at fracture are reduced as follows: 0.50 mm < t < 0.70 mm (minus 2 units), 0.35 mm < t < 0.50 mm (minus 4 units), and t < 0.35 mm (minus 7 units).
Applications
S280GD is used in a wide range of construction applications where high load-bearing capacity and long-lasting corrosion protection are required.
Typical areas of application are
- Roof and façade systems: trapezoidal and standing seam profiles for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Drainage components: Gutters, downpipes and rainwater collectors.
- Lightweight steel construction: hall constructions, hall aprons, carports and roofing.
- Facade cladding: Profiled sheets and sandwich panels for wall and ceiling elements.
- Solar mounting systems: Frames and substructures with a long service life and low maintenance.
Thanks to the flexible overlay options, maintenance intervals can be extended and overall operating costs reduced, making the S280GD an economically attractive solution for modern construction projects.
