What is the difference between SPCC and SPCD? What do the letters stand for?

1.What is the difference in chemical composition?

The carbon content of SPCC is generally ≤0.12%, while that of SPCD is typically ≤0.10%. The lower carbon content of SPCD helps improve plasticity, and some SPCD grades may contain aluminum (Al) as a deoxidizer, creating a finer grain structure and improving deep-drawability.

SPCC

2.What are the differences in mechanical properties?

SPCC has an elongation of ≥28%, while SPCD has an elongation of ≥30%. SPCD has a higher elongation and stronger crack resistance. SPCD also has a relatively lower yield strength, making it easier to deform by stamping. It is softer than SPCC and has better plasticity.

SPCD

3.What is the difference in stamping performance?

SPCC is used for general stamping and is suitable for simple deformation, such as simple bending and shallow stretching. SPCD is used for deep drawing and is suitable for complex deformation, such as deep drawing and bulging. It can withstand more severe cold working without cracking.

SPCD

4.What are the differences in typical applications?

SPCC is often used to manufacture simple stamping parts that do not require high strength, such as automobile body panels, home appliance housings, and computer cases. SPCD is used to manufacture parts that require deep drawing, such as automobile fuel tanks, exhaust pipes, rice cooker liners, and microwave oven housings.

5.What is the price difference between the two?

SPCD has optimized stamping performance based on SPCC and has higher production process requirements, so its price is usually slightly higher than SPCC.
