SECC Electro Galvanized Steel

SECC steel is electro-galvanized commercial quality cold rolled steel which is basically cold rolled and then coated with zinc in an electro-galvanizing line. SECC is a material grade and designation defined in JIS G 3313 standard. It is a low-cost steel metal grade with improved thermal conduction that is mostly utilized for the casings of computer and other electronic accessories.

Electro-Galvanised Steel (EG), is where steel is immersed in a zinc bath and electricity is used to induce anodes of zinc to dissolve in the solution and then be electroplated to the material. EG is free from spangles and pin holes resulting in excellent paint adhesion. Due to the light coating weight and no heat effect, EG has almost the same quality in mechanical property and formability as the cold rolled base material. EG can be spot or seam welded as with plain steel sheets.

Good Corrosion Resistance
To enhance the anti-corrosion property, Electro-Galvanized steel is chemically treated or oiled to protect the zinc coating from white rust.Rust is positively retarded even when the base metal is exposed to the atmosphere during fabrication.
Anti-Finger Print (AFP)
The AFP film can be touched by fingers without print left on its surface and has been approved by several laboratory tests.
Good Formability
The strong bonding AFP film with self-contained lubricant agent is very good in formability without zinc dust loosening during pressing and slitting process.
Good Weldability
The AFP film is easy to apply spot or seam welding as with plain steel sheets.
Excellent Paint Adhesion
Electro-Galvanized steel is free from spangles and pinholes.Surfaces are teated with phosphate or chromate to assure improved paint adhesion as well as a smooth and pleasant finish.The AFP film is compatible with most regular paint which may appliedin the coating process.
Good Resistance to Cleaning Agent
Whenever it is necessary to clean surface of the Electro-Galvanized coil with AFP coating some cleaners (PH 9.5 -10.0) such as Aliphatic & halogened solvents are recommended.Low alkalinity cleaners are also suitable.

Electro galvanization alters the properties of SPCC steel and makes it SECC steel. Therefore with the help of electro galvanization, these materials can be used in environments where there is high moisture content which causes rust on simple cold rolled steel. But due to electro galvanization, SECC steel can be used in locations moderately prone to rust and corrosion. Some common applications are as under

• SECC Steels are primarily used in PC cases, motor cases, tanks etc.
• These are also used in different applications of electrical instrumentation.
• SECC coils are also consumed by painted products.
