1. Definition

During the hot-dip galvanizing process, cleaned steel pipes are completely immersed in molten zinc, forming a zinc coating on the surface, thereby achieving corrosion resistance.

1. Observation of Appearance
1) Uniformity of the Zinc Coating
High-quality hot-dip galvanized pipes should have a uniform zinc coating on their surface, free of punctures, missed coatings, or over-galvanizing. A uniform zinc coating effectively prevents localized corrosion and extends the service life of the pipe.
2) Surface Finish
High-quality hot-dip galvanized pipes should have a smooth surface, free of zinc scars, scratches, and other physical damage. Surface finish not only affects the appearance of the pipe but also directly impacts its corrosion resistance.
2. Checking the Zinc Coating Thickness
Zinc coating thickness is a key factor affecting the corrosion resistance of hot-dip galvanized pipes. Typically, zinc coating thickness can be measured using a magnetic thickness gauge. According to national standards, different specifications and applications of hot-dip galvanized pipes have corresponding zinc coating thickness requirements. Users should select the appropriate zinc coating thickness standard based on their specific needs.
3. Chemical Composition Analysis
In addition to zinc, high-quality hot-dip galvanized pipes also contain small amounts of elements such as aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), and copper (Cu) to enhance the coating's physical and chemical properties. Chemical composition analysis can determine whether the coating's composition meets relevant standards.
4. Salt Spray Test
The salt spray test is an effective method for testing the corrosion resistance of hot-dip galvanized pipes. Samples are placed in an environment containing a certain concentration of salt water and the surface corrosion is observed over a period of time.
