Are galvanized coils used in express sorting racks?

1.Why are galvanized coils suitable for express sorting racks?

Excellent corrosion resistance, adaptable to various environments

Indoor Environment: Although sorting centers are mostly located indoors, the floor may be exposed to clean, humid air or condensation caused by diurnal temperature fluctuations. Ordinary steel is prone to rust, which not only stains the packages but also weakens the structure. A galvanized coating effectively resists these corrosion effects.

Occasional Outdoor Exposure: If the sorting rack is used on a loading dock or in a semi-open area, it needs to be resistant to rain and fog. A galvanized coating provides reliable protection.

High Strength and Durability

The base material of the galvanized coil is steel, which has a high strength-to-weight ratio and can withstand the static loads of heavy packages on the sorting rack, the dynamic loads of sorting machine operation, and the inevitable bumps and scrapes.

Compared to pure plastic or aluminum structures, steel sorting racks are stronger, more stable, and have a longer service life.

Surface Hardness and Wear Resistance

The zinc layer combined with the steel base creates a galvanized coating with a certain hardness, which can withstand the frequent sliding and friction of packages on chutes and rollers, and is not easily worn through.

2.What are the specific application areas of galvanized coils on the sorting rack?

Main frame structure: The backbone supporting the entire sorting system, requiring the highest strength and stability.

Chute: The channel through which packages slide, requiring an extremely smooth and wear-resistant surface to reduce friction.

Side panels/guards: Prevent packages from falling and must withstand impact.

Rollers: Components that directly carry and transport packages, requiring extremely high levels of wear and corrosion resistance.

Pallets/workstations: Workstations for manual sorting operations.

3.How to choose the thickness of the galvanized layer when selecting and using it?

The selection should be based on the busyness of the sorting center and the ambient humidity. For high-intensity use and humid environments (such as in southern China), materials with thicker zinc layers (such as Z180 and above) should be selected.

4.What is the surface treatment status when selecting and using?

Untreated: The lowest cost option, suitable for structural parts where aesthetics are not a priority.

Passivation: The most common option. It enhances white rust resistance and provides a good base for subsequent painting (if corporate colors are desired).

Oil coating: Provides short-term rust protection and facilitates processing.

Anti-fingerprint treatment: This option is available for parts with high aesthetics and high resistance to fingerprint smudges.

5.What should be considered in design and processing when selecting and using?

Avoid sharp angles: Sharp angles should be avoided during design to minimize damage to the galvanized coating during processing.

Welding treatment: Welding damages the galvanized coating. Therefore, welds must be treated with a dedicated anti-corrosion treatment after welding, typically by carefully cleaning and applying a zinc-rich primer. This is crucial to ensuring the lifespan of the entire structure.

Preventing cut corrosion: Cut surfaces are the weakest point in the coating, so proper sealing or protection should be ensured during installation.
