Classification of Galvanized Steel Sheets
Based on the production and processing methods, galvanized steel sheets can be divided into the following categories:
① Hot-dip galvanized steel sheets.
This type of steel sheet is produced by immersing the steel sheet in a bath of dissolved zinc, resulting in a thin layer of zinc adhering to the surface. This process is primarily a continuous galvanizing process, whereby coiled steel sheets are continuously immersed in a bath of dissolved zinc to form the galvanized steel sheet.
② Alloyed galvanized steel sheet.
This type of steel sheet is also produced using the hot-dip method, but immediately after exiting the bath, it is heated to approximately 500°C to form a thin film of zinc and iron alloy. This type of galvanized steel sheet offers excellent paint adhesion and weldability.
③ Electrogalvanized steel sheet.
This type of galvanized steel sheet, produced using the electroplating method, offers excellent workability. However, the coating is thinner and its corrosion resistance is inferior to that of hot-dip galvanized steel sheet.
④ Single-sided and double-sided differentially galvanized steel sheet.
Single-sided galvanized steel sheet is galvanized on only one side. It offers better adaptability to welding, painting, rust prevention, and processing than double-sided galvanized steel sheet. To overcome the drawback of being uncoated on one side, another type of galvanized sheet is coated with a thin layer of zinc on the other side, known as double-sided differential galvanized sheet.
⑤ Alloy and composite galvanized steel sheets.
These are steel sheets made by alloying or even composite coatings with zinc and other metals, such as aluminum, lead, and zinc. These sheets offer both excellent rust resistance and excellent paintability.
In addition to the five types mentioned above, there are also colored galvanized steel sheets, printed galvanized steel sheets, and PVC-laminated galvanized steel sheets. However, hot-dip galvanized steel remains the most commonly used.
