What is cold-rolled steel coil?

Cold-rolled coils are products made by rolling hot-rolled coils at room temperature. The manufacturing process of cold-rolled coils includes pickling the hot-rolled coils to remove the oxide scale, followed by cold continuous rolling to finally obtain hard-rolled coils.

Cold-rolled coils have a wide range of applications, including automobile manufacturing, electrical products, locomotives and rolling stock, aviation, precision instruments, canned food, and construction.

Notes
1. The thickness of a steel strip is typically measured at a point within 15 mm of the edges. For pieces less than 30 mm in width, thickness is measured at the center.
2. To order sizes not listed above, please feel free to contact us.
3. Costs are higher for products made to meet special standards (SS and U).

FAQ

1. Can SPCC-SD be welded?
Yes. Due to its low carbon content, SPCC-SD offers excellent weldability using standard methods like spot welding, MIG, or TIG, making it ideal for assembled metal frames.

2. Is SPCC-SD rust-resistant?
No. As a cold-rolled steel without a metallic coating (like zinc), it will rust if exposed to moisture. It requires oiling, painting, or plating for corrosion protection.

3. What is the standard thickness range?
SPCC-SD is typically available in thicknesses ranging from 0.15 mm to 3.2 mm. Thicknesses above this usually fall under hot-rolled steel categories.

4. Is SPCC-SD suitable for deep drawing?
No. SPCC is for "commercial quality" (general bending). For deep drawing, you should use SPCD (Drawing) or SPCE (Deep Drawing) grades instead.

5. How should SPCC-SD be stored?
It should be stored in a dry, temperature-controlled indoor environment and kept in its original waterproof packaging to prevent "white rust" or oxidation before processing.
