1. Material Properties

Galvanized steel pipe is based on steel, coated with a zinc layer through a galvanizing process. This provides excellent corrosion resistance, extending its service life compared to ordinary steel pipe. This advantage is particularly pronounced in harsh environments such as humid, acidic, and alkaline environments. Other pipe materials, such as plastic pipes, commonly found in PVC and PE, are primarily plastic and offer advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistance (to common acid and alkaline media), and excellent insulation. However, they may deform in high-temperature environments, and some plastic pipes have relatively weak pressure resistance.

2. Connection Methods

Galvanized steel pipes typically use threaded or flanged connections, providing a tight connection and ensuring a tight seal in the piping system. Plastic pipes, on the other hand, are often joined using methods such as hot melt or adhesive bonding. The connection process requires specialized skills and tools, and once connected, modifications are difficult.

3. Construction

Galvanized steel pipes are relatively complex to construct due to their material and connection methods, requiring specialized tools and skills and resulting in higher construction costs. Plastic pipes, on the other hand, are simpler and more convenient to install, faster, and can save time and money.

4. Scope of Application

Galvanized steel pipes, due to their corrosion resistance and high pressure resistance, are widely used in building water supply, drainage, fire protection, and other fields, especially in areas with high water quality requirements. Plastic pipes are widely used in building drainage, electrical conduit, and other fields. With continuous technological advancements, plastic pipes are also gradually replacing galvanized steel pipes in some water supply applications.
