How is the sound insulation effect of color steel plate?

1.What is the sound insulation performance of single-layer color steel plate?

Structure: Only one layer of metal substrate + coating, the whole is light and thin.
Sound insulation principle: The metal plate is rigid and thin, and the sound insulation mainly depends on the "mass law", but the single-layer plate is not of sufficient quality and cannot effectively block sound waves.
Actual effect: The sound insulation is extremely poor, only 5-10dB can be isolated, and the outdoor traffic, human voice, wind and rain sound will be directly transmitted into the room, with almost no sound insulation effect.
Applicable scenarios: temporary enclosures, simple sheds (no requirements for sound insulation).

2.What are the differences in the filling materials between sandwich panels?

Rockwool sandwich panel: the middle is filled with rockwool (density 80-120kg/m³), and both sides are color-coated steel plates (total thickness 50-150mm)

Polyurethane sandwich panel: polyurethane foam in the middle (density 40-60kg/m³), total thickness 50-200mm

Glass wool sandwich panel: filled with glass wool (density 48-96kg/m³), total thickness 50-150mm

3.What are the key factors affecting sound insulation?

Thickness and density of sandwich layer
The thicker the thickness, the higher the sound insulation.
The higher the density of the filling material, the denser the internal structure, and the better the absorption of mid- and high-frequency sound waves.

Panel splicing and sealing: The splicing gap of the color steel plate is a weak point in sound insulation. If the gap is not sealed during installation, the sound waves will be diffracted through the gap and enter the room, resulting in a 30%-50% decrease in the actual sound insulation effect.

Sound wave frequency:
The sound insulation effect of color steel plate on different frequencies varies greatly:
High-frequency noise: The filling material of sandwich panel can effectively absorb it, and the sound insulation effect is better.
Low-frequency noise: Low-frequency sound waves have strong penetration, and the barrier effect of sandwich panel is limited, so it is necessary to add an additional damping layer to improve it.

4.How does the sound insulation compare to other materials?

Single-layer color steel plate is the worst and can only slightly reduce noise

100mm rock wool sandwich panel is equivalent to 120mm solid brick wall

Double-layer insulating glass is slightly inferior to sandwich panels of the same thickness

240mm solid brick wall has better sound insulation than sandwich panel

5.What are the practical tips for improving the sound insulation of color steel plates?

Choose high-specification sandwich panels: 100-150mm thick glass wool or high-density rock wool sandwich panels are preferred, and basic sound insulation is more reliable.
Add sound insulation layer: Add gypsum board + sound insulation cotton to the inside of the color steel plate, which can increase the sound insulation by an additional 10-15dB.
Do a good job of sealing: fill the board seams and door and window frames with sound insulation sealant, and install sealing strips at the bottom of the door to reduce sound leakage from the gap.
Deal with low-frequency noise: Paste damping sound insulation felt on the surface of the color steel plate to consume low-frequency vibration energy through damping and reduce the transmission of low-frequency noise.
