Galvanized Steel Coils
The service life of galvanized steel coils depends on several factors, including the thickness of the zinc coating, the environmental conditions, and the maintenance practices. In a typical outdoor environment with moderate humidity and low pollution levels, a galvanized steel with a standard zinc coating thickness of around 80 - 100 g/m² can last for 20 - 30 years. Thicker coatings can extend the service life to 50 years or more.
Galvanized steel is highly resistant to corrosion in most environments, but in extremely harsh conditions such as coastal areas with high salt spray or industrial areas with high levels of sulfur dioxide and other pollutants, the corrosion rate may increase, reducing the service life. However, even in these challenging environments, proper maintenance, such as periodic cleaning and touch-up painting of damaged areas, can significantly extend the lifespan of galvanized steel.

Prepainted Steel Coils
The service life of color coated steel coils is also influenced by multiple factors, including the quality of the pre-treatment, the type and thickness of the organic coating, and the environmental exposure. High-quality color coated steel with a durable coating like PVDF can have a service life of 20 - 30 years or more in normal outdoor environments. The organic coating provides an additional layer of protection against corrosion and UV degradation, helping to maintain the color and appearance of the steel over time.
However, in harsh environments, especially those with high UV radiation, extreme temperature fluctuations, or chemical exposure, the organic coating may degrade more rapidly, reducing the service life of the color coated steel. In such cases, regular inspection and maintenance, including repainting when necessary, are essential to ensure the long-term performance of the material.
