Material selection is crucial in mold design, directly impacting product performance and application. Due to the diverse nature of products, the required mold materials vary. Some products are even designated with specific abbreviations, such as "GI."

Cold-rolled mild steel grades such as SPCC (Steel Plate Cold Commercial), SPCD (Steel Plate Cold Deep Drawn), SPCE (Steel Plate Cold Deep Drawn Extra), SPCF, and SPCG have diverse applications in mold design. For example, SPCC is a common cold-rolled mild steel, while SPCE excels in deep drawing due to its excellent lacing properties. Meanwhile, SPCF and SPCG are suitable for non-aging deep drawing and extra-deep drawing, respectively, providing more options for mold design.

Electrolytically galvanized steel is a cold-rolled steel obtained by surface-treating cold-rolled steel sheets through processes such as electrolytic galvanizing. Its chemical composition and mechanical properties are similar to those of the aforementioned cold-rolled steels. SECC (Steel Electrolytic Cold Commercial) represents cold-rolled electrolytic steel, SECD (Steel Electrolytic Cold Deep Drawn) represents cold-rolled deep-drawn electrolytic steel, and SECE (Steel Electrolytic Cold Deep Drawn Extra) represents cold-rolled electrolytic steel used for deep drawing. SECC-K2 is Kobe Steel's designation for fingerprint-resistant steel sheet, with K2 indicating an organic coating and KS an inorganic coating. Furthermore, EGC (Electrolytic Galvanized Steel) is Nippon Steel's designation for cold-rolled electrolytic steel sheet, while CS represents UF-treated fingerprint-resistant steel sheet.
